Aygun Mubariz

was born on July 9, 1979 in Baku (Azerbaijan) as the daughter of economics professor Mubariz Gurbanov and doctor Sadagat Gurbanova. After school, she studied commercial activities in the raw materials market and in the service sector at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics, which she completed in 2000 with a master’s degree for the Russian sector.

But this wasn’t her thing.

In the same year, she studied solo singing at the Baku Music Academy and completed this in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree for the Russian sector.

In 2006 she appeared as a soloist with the aria “O mio babbino” from Cianni Schicchi by Ciacomo Puccini, with the polonaise Philine “Je suis Titania” from Mignon by Ambroise Thomas, with the aria “Rosina” from The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini, with the aria “Oscar” from The Masked Ball by Giacomo Puccini, with the aria “Quando m’en vo, Muzetta” from La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini and with the “Gülchöhra” aria from the operetta Arshin mal Alan by Üzeyir Hacibeyov together with the concertmaster Melahet Ismailova on stage in the Boffrand Hall of the Senate of Paris.

In 2007, she performed in masterclasses under the tutelage of the renowned singer Elena Obraztsova, a People’s Artist of the USSR, in Baku. In the fall of that same year, she played the lead role of Gülchöhra in the operetta Arshin Mal Alan by Üzeyir Hacibeyov at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Baku. In November, an international jury chaired by Irina Konstantinovna Arkhipova, also a People’s Artist of the USSR, awarded her a prize in the IV International Bül-Bül Vocal Competition in Baku.

The following year, she performed as “Gloria VI” in Vivaldi’s Domine Deus with the Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra named after G. Garayev, under the direction of Dmitry Yablonsky, a Merited Artist of Azerbaijan, at the Philharmonic Hall in Baku. She also performed as a soloist during the Days of Azerbaijani Culture, presenting Maestro Niyazi’s Arzu song and the “Gülchöhra” aria again, this time accompanied by Prof. Yegane Akhundova on the piano, at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris.

After a one-year break, she performed as a soloist with the Choral Capella of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic named after M. Magomayev for four years, collaborating with the symphony and chamber orchestras, as well as with the choir and dance ensemble. In 2011, she sang Ave Maria, arranged by Ferhad Bedelbeyli, at official Vatican events, and also performed at official Azerbaijani state events in Rome, Berlin, and Paris, both times with the Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra named after G. Garayev, this time under the direction of Teymur Goychayev, a People’s Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In 2012, she performed the song Baku by Rauf Haciyev as a soloist at the opening concert for the symbolic handover of the key to the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku. Later that year, she performed Oscar’s aria “Saper vorreste” from Un ballo in maschera by Giuseppe Verdi in Baku, as well as the Arzu song at the Teatro Santa Cecilia in Rome, and during the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in Ankara and Izmir, Turkey, all with the same orchestra under the same conductor.

September 14, 2012, stands as one of the most significant days in her artistic life. On this day, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan personally awarded her the medal of “Merited Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan.”

Subsequently, she completed her training as a vocal pedagogue at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory, preparing prize winners for national and international competitions. Additionally, she gave further solo concerts, performing the Gülchöhra aria with the Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra named after G. Garayev at Gürzenich Hall in Cologne, Germany; Arzular by Tofiq Quliyev, also with the Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra named after G. Garayev, under the direction of Teymur Goychayev at the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès in Strasbourg, France; and once again the Arzu song, this time with the legendary Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the great Vladimir Fedoseyev, a People’s Artist of the USSR, in the famous Pillar Hall of the House of the Unions in Moscow.

Following a two-year creative hiatus, she joined the State Rashid Beybutov Song Theater in Azerbaijan as a soloist for folk songs and classical music for seven years starting in 2016, during which time she also pursued further vocal training.

At the opening ceremony of the “Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix” in Baku, Azerbaijan (2017), she sang the Azerbaijani national anthem. In the same year, she performed Evleri var xana-xan (folk music) and once again the Gülchöhra aria during the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in the USA, in San Diego and Los Angeles, California.

2017 and 2018 were also the years of her Azerbaijani awards as a vocal teacher. She received high recognition for successfully preparing the winner of the II International Festival-Competition “Testene Art Baku” and was awarded an Honorary Certificate for successfully preparing the winner of the national competition for performers, singers, and variety artists among children and young men.

But these achievements as a singer did not prevent her from pursuing acting. From 2017 to 2018, she played the lead role of Dilara in the Azerbaijani television series Vicdan Haqqı (Price of Conscience), achieving high ratings.

Finally, during the pandemic, Aygun Mubariz held a position as a senior specialist in the Department of Culture and Azerbaijani Language at the State Language Commission’s Observatory of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Her responsibilities there included compiling and analyzing 350 contemporary Azerbaijani songs and overseeing song productions. However, in 2023, she decided to leave this position to refocus on her career as a singer.
